Vote Pernick-Carlin for WSA

Hi everyone. I am Becky Weiss ’10, chair of the Wesleyan Student Assembly’s (WSA) Finance & Facilities Committee. I have served on the WSA for the last year-and-a-half. In that time I have worked closely with Mike Pernick ’10 and Saul Carlin ’09, both of whom have proven to be outstanding WSA members.

In their time on the WSA, Mike and Saul have earned the respect of administrators. This respect has allowed them to effectively push for the student interest without jeopardizing their ability to do so, making them valuable student advocates. Their tireless efforts have resulted in many benefits to the Wesleyan student body.

Last year, when we sat on the Student Affairs Committee together, I saw Mike in action. The administration was trying to change the party registration policy to force students to register any party of 25 or more people. Mike spoke out and ensured that the policy wouldn’t be implemented. If it wasn’t for Mike, mandatory woodframe party registration would be in effect right now, and parties on Fountain would never be the same. Mike’s unyielding voice combined with his working relationship with administrators resulted in a positive outcome for students.

This year Saul and I have worked closely together on the Dining Committee. When students were being overcharged in the fall, Saul was an instrumental voice in lowering prices and ultimately switching lunch to an all-you-care-to-eat set-up, a change that has allowed us to conserve our points while still getting a full meal. Most recently, Saul’s efforts have resulted in a victory in our grueling fight for to-go in the Marketplace. If it wasn’t for Saul, we would all be stuck eating in the Marketplace on those beautiful sunny days.

Mike and Saul are my choice for WSA President and Vice-President because I’ve seen them at work and I know that under their leadership, the WSA will truly be able to fight for students. When you cast your vote in the upcoming election, remember all of the good work that Mike and Saul have done for the Wesleyan student body!
