Despite the fact that it’s only mid-April and last night’s low temperature was 33 degrees, spring has officially arrived—on the hill, at least. Last Thursday was a particularly fantastic example of the fashions that the best dressed at Wes are rocking this season.
The scene was described perfectly by an admiring bystander: “It’s so nice to see all the girls wearing such pretty dresses; in the real world it’s just not like that.”
If you’re bummed that your summer wardrobe isn’t up to par, don’t worry—these nearby stores are packed with bargains that may not last through the season but won’t blow your budget.
Bob’s Store
With an impressive collection of athletic wear, party gear and even shoes, Bob’s is an all-star destination that many people overlook. Situated conveniently next to Stop & Shop, the Dollar Store and Marshall’s, Bob’s Store almost always has something on sale.
Currently, from now until April 19, warm weather apparel is up to 50 percent off. Although we miss the days when Bob’s was only a short walk away on Main Street, it’s worth a drive to check out the varied assortment of merchandise—which includes belts for only $1 and an equally well-priced selection of leggings in a rainbow of colors.
Forever 21
The secret is out: most of your friends are probably wearing at least one piece of clothing that hails from Forever, whether or not they’ll admit it. On a recent trip to the Meriden Mall, Forever 21 completely overwhelmed my shopping companions with endless racks of dresses, sweaters and trendy jewelry.
Between the three of us we probably tried on several dozen dresses, most of which were priced at around $19 or less. We suffered severe shopping fatigue, but everyone came home with something and spent less than $40.
Classic spaghetti strap sundresses are only $11, while the necklaces and bracelets range from around $5 to $10, not to mention the patterned hoodies for only $17.
If you’re feeling more adventurous and extremely patient, check out For Love 21 at the West Farms mall, the accessories-only sister store, complete with mirrored walls, chandeliers and 16-foot-high ceilings reminiscent of a cheap American version of Marie Antoinette’s bedroom at Versailles.
Dots
The perennial favorite (featured recently as an excellent choice for finding apparel for the Studio 54 senior cocktails), Dots restocks constantly; if you don’t find what you’re looking for the first time, try again the next week and you’ll find an entirely new selection of clothes on clearance.
