Cardinal team of the weekend: Men’s crew

Facing Williams, their stiffest competition of the season, at the Little Three Regatta on Saturday, the men’s crew team defeated the Ephs in the varsity eight event for the first time in eight years. The Cardinals, ranked second in the nation with an 11-0 record, finished 3.3 seconds better than the Ephs with a time of 6:05.8. In addition to the varsity eight win, the Cards defeated Williams in the second varsity eight by an astounding 15 seconds, then edged the Ephs in the third varsity eight by two seconds to complete the sweep. Amherst’s only entry over weekend was in the varsity four event, and the Lord Jeffs also succumbed to the Cardinals’ incredible depth. The Cards’ time of 7:03.7 was nearly five seconds faster than the Lord Jeffs’ time. By defeating both Williams and Amherst, the Cardinals took home the Little Three title. In the final outing of the season before the prestigious New England Tournament, the Cards take on Connecticut College and Trinity College, the top ranked team in the country on Saturday in Worchester, MA.
