Contributing to all three phases of the game in Saturday’s 24-21 road loss to Colby, Pepe did all he could to guide the Cardinals to a winning record for the first time since 2004. On the defensive side of the ball, Pepe recorded nine tackles as well as an interception in the endzone and a forced fumble, leading him to be named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week. He also made his mark on Wesleyan’s most potent offensive effort of the young season by running for a four-yard touchdown. Come crunch time, though, Pepe was at his best, putting the Cards within striking distance of a win with his 27-yard kickoff return following Colby’s go-ahead field goal. On the day, Pepe returned four kicks for a season-high 63 yards. Another all-around performance from Pepe this Saturday against Bates (0-3) should put the Cardinals in the position to even their record at 2-2.
