Women’s tennis blasts Bantams

In their final home match of the fall season, the women’s tennis team produced their best dual-match result on Wednesday, beating Trinity College 8-1. The match improved the Cardinals’ record to 4-3 while dropping Trinity to 1-3.

Ania Preneta ’09, Tori Santoro ’07, Alexandra Sirois ’09, and captain Suz Ragab ’06 all came away with straight set victories at second, third, fifth, and sixth singles respectively while Rachael Ghorbani ’09 pulled out a three set victory at #1 singles. The Cardinals then swept the doubles matches.

The victory highlighted the great contribution the freshmen class has made to the team this fall. Preneta improved her individual singles record to 4-3, all at the number two spot. Ghorbani, another frosh, has held the number one singles spot throughout the fall and done well facing each team’s best player. Meanwhile, senior captain Ragab’s experience has helped her to a 5-2 record at the number five and six singles spots. She was quick to praise everyone Wednesday though.

“Everyone brought their ‘A’ game today,” she said.

The Lady Cards now have two dual-matches remaining on the schedule this fall. Friday they will head to New London to face Connecticut College.
