Study finds Weshop prices above local vendors

Although Aramark contends that its items are priced fairly given market prices, a small-scale study conducted by the Argus has found that prices at Weshop are in most cases above both local grocery stores and convenience stores.

The study examined prices at the A&P grocery store on Washington Street and the convenience store at the Sunoco gas station also on Washington Street. Because A&P is a large grocery chain and can therefore buy items at a lower price than Weshop, the prices were almost without exception between ten cents and several dollars below those of Weshop. The Sunoco convenience store, which receives supplies from the same firm as Weshop, had prices more comparable to those on campus, but the Sunoco prices were still in several cases lower.

Selected items featured at Weshop, A&P and Sunoco have been compared. Because Sunoco features a significantly smaller selection than the other two stores, items from Weshop and A&P alone were also compared. Prices do not reflect discounts offered at any of the stores, and comparisons are made with items of the same size and variety.
