Pat Moffett ’04 successfully defended his New England Division-III title in the 110-meter hurdle event Saturday in Williamstown, Mass.
Moffett completed the event in a blurring :14.50, for a .13 second margin of victory. His time stands as the third best Division III finish so far this season, which means he will likely represent the Cardinals at the NCCA Outdoor Track Championships. Moffett also joined forces with Justin Freiberg ’04, Mshangwe Crawford ’04, and Taylor Bentley ’06 to lead Wesleyan to a fourth place finish (:43.39) in the 4×100 meter relay.
In other events, Wes Fuhrman ’05 finished fifth in the 5,000-meter race (15:45.60), Bryan Bissell ’04 placed seventh in the 10,000-meter race (33:49.12), and Crawford triple jumped 43 feet, 7 inches, good for eighth place. Wesleyan finished the meet in fifteenth place out of a field of 25 teams.
The women as a team finished in a tie for sixteenth place in their 28 team field, which took place in Springfield, Mass. Leading the team was Esther Schlegel ’04 who took second place in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of :15.55. The only other point-scorers for the team were the members of the 3,200-meter relay team. The team finished seventh wih a time of 9:57.61 and consisted of Cara Chebuske ’06, Krystin Kyrka ’04, Jen Brown ’04, and Brittany Allen ’04.
Next up for both squads is the New England Open Championships this coming weekend.
