Detectives from the Middletown Police Department (MPD) are investigating the Oct 20th robbery of a Fleet Bank located at 895 Washington St.
`The robber did not display a weapon and police said they believe he was acting alone.
The suspect left the bank on foot with an undisclosed sum of money and witnesses were unable to determine the direction in which he fled. No one was injured during the hold up.
The bank’s surveillance cameras show the suspect entering through the front door wearing a knit cap, donning a pair of dark sunglasses before approaching the teller, handing the teller a note demanding money then leaving through the front door.
Witnesses described the suspect as approximately 30 years of age, between 5’6“ and 5’8” tall, with a pockmarked face and of slim build, according to police.
Though the MPD is withholding the suspect’s name pending a warrant for his arrest from the Middlesex Superior Court, the press release states that a “strong suspect” has been identified based on bank security photos. Detectives from the Waterbury Police have linked Jason Palomba, 31, to the Fleet Bank robbery.
Palomba is at the top of Waterbury’s Most Wanted list for his suspected involvement in six other robberies throughout central and western Connecticut, including: Naugatuck Savings Bank in Watertown on Sept 9; Webster Bank in Waterbury on Sept 27; Naugatuck Savings Bank in Cheshire on Oct 3; Fleet Bank in Guilford on Oct 8; Thomaston Savings Bank in Watertown on Oct 14; and Hudson United Bank in Meriden on Oct 17.
On Oct 22, Waterbury Police recovered Palomba’s 1986 black Chevy S10 Blazer parked at 413 Hudson St in Waterbury. They said the suspect is believed to be somewhere in the Hartford area, according to an Oct 22 story printed in the Middletown Press.
MPD Detective Division Commander Cpt. Christopher Barrow could not be reached for comment regarding the investigation. An MPD source said they hope to have the suspect in custody by early next week.
The MPD asks anyone with information regarding this robbery or the suspect to call the Middletown Police Detectives at 860-344-3240.
