Heading into the weekend series with Amherst, the Cardinals knew that one loss would eliminate them from playoff contention. Their determination was on the ball Friday, as a stellar performance in front of the home crowd in an 8-3 victory gave the team hope that they could battle their way into the postseason.
Despite holding leads of 6-0 and 10-8, the Cardinals were unable to fend off the Clark University Cougars late in the game, enduring a 17-12 loss in ten innings at Dresser Diamond this past Friday, April 22.

Despite a ninth inning rally, the Cardinals could not hold off the Blazers this past weekend as they dropped the away contest to Elms College by a score of 4-3. Mike Migiel-Schwartz ‘14 pitched three scoreless innings allowing just two hits, while Kyle Weiss ‘12 knocked in two runs on two hits to lead Wesleyan batters in the loss.
After suffering a tough loss in game one of this past weekend’s three-game series against the Hamilton Continentals, the Cardinals combined for 38 runs behind the bats of Joey Giaimo ’11 and tri-captain Julian Sonnenfeld ’11 to earn their first two wins of the NESCAC schedule and improve to 12-9 on the season. In his first career start in Cardinal uniform, Jimmy Hill ’14 allowed just three hits and struck out five in six scoreless innings of work to pick up his third win of the season.
The Cardinals baseball team looked to build on its successful spring break trip as it travelled to Newark, N.J., for a double-header with Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, March 26. After a slow start in the opening game that saw the Cards suffer a 12-2 defeat, the team rallied behind pitcher Mike Barsotti ’12 later that evening for a 4-3 victory to split the series.
After what seemed to be an endless winter, the Cardinals baseball team had no trouble warming up to the hot Arizona heat, as it posted an impressive 5-0 start and finished its 15-day stint with a 9-7 record to begin the 2011 season.
