The women’s tennis defeated the Mount Holyoke Lyons 9-0 in a dual match Wednesday in South Hadley, Mass., improving to a perfect 3-0 on the year. Playing only the top six players in both the singles and doubles matches, the Cardinals lost only one set throughout the entire match.

Wesleyan handily won all three doubles matches, establishing an early 3-0 lead. Teaming up at the number-one spot, Sarah Miller ‘12 and Anika Fischer ‘10 played a great match and finished with a solid 8-2 victory. No. 2 partners Genevieve Aniello ’13 and Meredith Holmes ‘10 dominated their opponents with an 8-4 win, and Casey Simchik ‘10 and Linda McDougal ‘11 concluded the doubles matches with another 8-2 victory at No. 3.

The Cardinals continued their impressive play throughout the singles matches. Starting at the top singles spot, Fischer won 6-3, 6-1, and Miller defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Playing at No. 3, Holmes lost her first set 6-4 but then proceeded to win her second set 6-2 and take the tiebreaker 10-6. At the number-four spot, Aniello triumphed over her opponent 6-1, 6-1. Holding down the fifth spot, McDougal pulled out a 6-3, 7-5 win, and Simchik finished off the day with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

The team will finish out its fall season on Saturday with a 1:00 match at Simmons College.
