Men’s soccer traveled to Vassar College (7-8) Wednesday afternoon for its final match of the regular season. With the NESCAC playoffs underway, the game’s outcome has little relevance to the season, but the ardinals stuck it to the Brewers 2-0 to improve their record to 9-5-1 (5-3-1 NESCAC). Alex Whitworth ’08 got the first goal of his young career to give the Cardinals the lead in the forty-sixth minute. Morgan Owen ’07 scored the second goal of the game—his third of the season—in the final minute. Three frosh goalies—Jamie Hiteshew, Matt Gnall and Anthony Nikolchev—combined to make eight saves for the shutout victory. The Cardinals, winners of three straight, have lost only one of their last eight matches. The team’s focus now shifts to its NESCAC semi-final contest against top-seeded Williams on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Since the Ephs are the top seed in the conference, they are hosting the championship weekend. If the Cardinals defeat the Ephs, they will play the winner of the other semi-final match, between Middlebury and Bowdoin, on Sunday.
