While both Presidents Bennet (1995-2007) and Michael Roth (2007-) have provided justifications for the ban on chalking, both arguments appear to be predicated on the notion that, because Wesleyan is a private institution, the University has no responsibility to state or federal protections of freedom of speech. However, state law suggests that this story is not so simple.
On Sunday, the Wesleyan Student Assembly held a very productive discussion with President Roth about the recent Board of Trustees meetings. Suffice it to say that we held a very informative discussion on matters such as the endowment, the new fundraising campaign, Greek life, and many other matters. If only the spirit of the meeting, […]
Dear readers, Those of you who liked the print edition of my Dec. 7 OPEN LETTER TO CHAIR OF RELIGION will like the updated online edition more. Those of you who disliked the print edition will dislike the updated online edition more. That said, no reader should suffer a letdown. As for the headline I […]
Dear Wesleyan, I must be honest; I am so in love with you, Wes. We have grown in new ways together, and I think we are both better for our interactions. You have introduced me to your wonderful friend group (read: everyone at this school), and I am lucky enough to get along with many […]

The University is proposing to construct a new natural gas cogeneration power plant near Freeman Athletic Center. This was proposed in […]
