Got Milk? The Ronnybrook Revolution

September 6, 2012, by Ariana Rudress and Alexandra Irace, Contributing Writers. Comments Off on Got Milk? The Ronnybrook Revolution

As we swiped our WesIDs and strolled into Usdan Marketplace last weekend, we were happy to see that our favorite on-campus eatery had lost none of its traditional offerings. To the average Wesleyan student, everything might seem the same; however, upon closer inspection, the Bon Appétit dining service has made a significant change. Let’s call it “The Ronnybrook Revolution.”

Where to Go and What to Eat

August 30, 2012, by Isabel, Food/Features Editor. Leave a Comment

The beginning of freshman year can be overwhelming—there are endless orientation events, hundreds of new people to meet, hours of unpacking to do, and then you have to worry about food. Where should you go? Where is the best food—the stuff that almost reminds you of home—and what is the meal you should never ever […]

From Kilos to Cups: Making Carrot Cake in Paris

August 30, 2012, by Elizabeth, Staff Writer. 1 Comment

“Carrot cake?” a French woman asked me. “Ça gout du carrot? (Does it taste like carrots?)” I immediately answered, “Yes” because, to an American mind, the orange vegetable by definition lends the cake its distinctive flavor. “Non,” my colleague immediately corrected me. “C’est plutôt épicé. (It tastes more like spices.)” I had scared a customer. […]

On Friends, Knives, and Food: Aviva Markowitz ’12

May 3, 2012, by Cordelia Hyland, Food Editor. Leave a Comment

Aviva Markowitz ’12, former Food and Features Editor for The Argus, talks about the inspiration behind The Argus Food Section and creating Wesleyan’s first student recipe zine. Her zine, rather ominously entitled Friends with Knives, will be distributed around campus this weekend. The Argus: You founded The Argus’ Food Section. How did you come up […]

Food Blogs: Food for Thought

May 3, 2012, by Natalie Fine, Food Editor. 3 Comments

Since this is the last edition of the Food Section for the semester, I thought I’d write an article that explains where many of our recipes come from. In addition to our wonderful section contributors, the editors of this esteemed (and popular) section spend many hours (maybe too many hours) perusing food blogs across the […]

The Tofu Sandwich You Never Knew You Loved

May 3, 2012, by Will Levitt, Staff Writer. 1 Comment

Discovering a tofu sandwich is like that moment in middle school when you discover that there are some vegetables that are actually quite delicious. For me it was like when I discovered that I really like Caesar salad. For so long I had assumed, as most children do, that a green food is a gross […]

Two Recipes, Seven Bananas

April 26, 2012, by Miriam Olenick, Staff Writer. Leave a Comment

This is probably a familiar situation: you’re in Usdan at lunch. There are bananas by the dessert trays, and they actually look good. Maybe you’re running out of points, or maybe you just enjoy the quiet thrill of stealing food that you’ve actually already paid for—either way, you decide to take as many as you […]

Ode to a Slow Spring: Soba with Green Beans and Toasted Sesame-Lime Vinaigrette

April 26, 2012, by Su Park, Staff Writer. Leave a Comment

This morning, I woke up five minutes before my 10:30 a.m. class with a paperclip in my hair. I pulled on yesterday’s jeans, guzzled a jar of water, and hobbled across a drizzly campus toward Fisk. Only once I reached the doors did it occur to me that my contacts were reversed, my keys were […]

Titillating Tartlet Recipe

April 26, 2012, by Cordelia Hyland, Food Editor. Leave a Comment

The rainy weather yesterday meant all I wanted to do was stay in my pajamas and be unproductive, so I decided to make these little tartlets. That way, at least I would have achieved something during my lazy day and have a yummy meal at the same time. I went to Weshop envisioning little golden […]

The Best Strawberry Greek Yogurt Popsicles You Can Make Yourself

April 19, 2012, by Katherine Yagle, Executive Editor. Leave a Comment

This past summer, while I was living on campus to research my thesis and trying to survive off the cheapest groceries I could find, a fellow resident living in Psi U departed for the final month and left me all of her remaining food. Theoretically, I had just hit the jackpot. Unfortunately, in reality, that […]
