Both the men’s and women’s crew teams hosted the Coast Guard Academy on Saturday in Wesleyan’s first home dual race since 1998. Each squad took advantage of the home-field opportunity, as the men won three of four races and the women won two of three on the familiar waters of the Connecticut River.

On the men’s side, the Cardinal first varsity boat dominated the Cadets’ varsity entry, winning by more than a boat length as they beat the visitors by more than eight seconds. Meanwhile, the men’s second varsity boat drubbed the Coast Guard’s by more than 24 seconds, and the third varsity eight-man team beat the Coast Guard’s novice team by 17 seconds. The Cadets’ only win was by its novice four team, who bettered the Cardinal novices by 12 seconds.

The women fared almost as well, with the varsity boat falling to the cadets by a mere three seconds. However, the second and third varsity boats won their races, defeating the Coast Guard teams by 17 and 26 seconds, respectively.

Both teams will travel to Worcester, MA this Saturday, April 7 to compete against WPI, Colby, Middlebury, UMass Amherst (men only) and Smith (women).
