Wesleyan men’s swimming wrapped up a trying 2011-2012 season last weekend at Williams College by scoring 335.5 points to finish 11th place out of 11 teams in the NESCAC Championship. Following a regular season in which the Cardinals earned an inauspicious 1-8 record in dual meets and 3-10 overall in large part due to a small roster size, the Cards were once again stymied by the numbers game—their squad of 12 was the smallest at the competition for the second year in a row. However, there were some impressive individual performances, including six top-15 finishes in individual events.

Martin Kafina ’13 was a scoreboard presence throughout the butterfly events, going 0:23.44 in the 50-yard to finish 12th, 0:51.56 in the 100-yard for 10th, and 1:57.26 in the 200-yard for 14th. Co-captian Momo Saleh ’12 also earned multiple top-15 finishes, as he went 4:10.70 in the 400-yard IM for ninth and 2:10.76 in the 200-yard breaststroke to earn a 14th place finish. Brendan Fortin ’13 earned the highest individual finish for the Cardinals by swimming 1:57.08 in the 200-yard butterfly for seventh place.

With the season now over, Wesleyan Swimming bids farewell to seniors Chris Fragoso and Momo Saleh, who were exemplars of dedication and effort over the last four years.
