The men’s and women’s track teams traveled to the New England Division III Indoor Track Championships in Springfield this past weekend. This is always a competitive meet with many of the top teams in Divisions III in attendance, including Wesleyan’s NESCAC foes Williams, Ahmerst, and Trinity.

The men’s side placed 11th of 24 scoring squads with 30 team points.  Freshman LaDarius Drew had yet another great showing in which he counted for 16 of the 30 points, and captured first place in the 60m dash with an exceptional time of :06.96, while his :22.69 clocking in the 200m gave him third-place points.  In addition, Drew’s time in the 200m was just .03 seconds over the school record set in 1999. His 60m dash time is a school record at that distance. Not to be outshined, Tommie Lark ’12 picked up 11 points as he triple jumped his way to third place with a 46-4 1/4 leap. Junior Bryan Marsh also had a great race in the 5000m, finishing in 15:13.30.

The women’s team also had some great individual performances. Sierra Livious ’14 came within 49 points of the Wesleyan record in the pentathlon, as she racked up 3078 points to place fifth at the meet. She also came in sixth place in the shot put with a throw of 39-9 1/4. The 4x400m relay also captured fourth place, as Julia Frieze ’12, Ambrosia Smith ’15, Heidi Hirvonen ’15 and Kimora Brock ‘15 clocked in a solid time of 4:02.90. Freshman Heidi Hirvonen excelled in the 400m with a time of 1:00, good for 9th place overall.

Ahead for select members of the men’s and women’s squads will be the New England Open meet at Boston University this coming weekend.
