This past weekend, the men’s and women’s track and field teams competed as unofficial entries in the Collegiate Track Championships, the championship meet for the New Jersey Atlantic Conference. The Cardinal squad annually competes in this meet, although it failed to score.
The women’s team had some first-place finishes. Julia Frieze ’12 won the 500-meter run in 1:19.54. This is a season-best for Frieze, who has played a major leadership role for the squad this season. Julia Mark ’13 also won the 3k in 10:30. She won this event with a margin of almost 35 seconds. Libby Lazare ’14 and Hannah Zimmerman ’13 also ran well in the 5k, posting times of 18:26 and 19:00.
The men’s side posted some fast times as well. LaDarius Drew ’15 continued to prove himself during his inaugural season. He was the Cardinals’ top performer during the meet, as his time of :07.01 in the 60m dash was tops among all competitors and his :22.97 effort in the 200m ranked second. Bryan Marsh ’13 had a 4:27.43 mile, good for fourth place.
Next weekend, the Cards will travel to Springfield, Mass. for the New England Division III Championships with hopes of proving that Wesleyan can compete with the best teams in the region.
