The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded their regular seasons last Saturday at home with respective lopsided scores against Coast Guard Academy. However, while the women found themselves on the upside of a 202-93 margin, the men were not so fortunate, as they fell 211-68.

The female Cards had plenty of reason to celebrate, as they won 13 out of 14 individual swimming events and all of the relays. Cara Colker-Eybel ’13 finished first in a season-high three events, capturing the 100-yard freestyle (54:14), the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.03), and the 200-yard IM (2:13.12). Freshmen Rachel Hirsch and Angela Slevin each won a pair of events, with Hirsch taking the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke (1:07.54, 2:26.83) and Slevin the 100- and 200-yard backstroke (1:00.88, 2:13:13). Single-event winners were Rachel Cohen ’12 in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:55.96), Julia Fram ’12 in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.68), Bailey Muchin ’15 in the 500-yard freestyle (5:19.15), and Alyssa Savarino ’14 in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.94).

The women’s team victory not only capped off its fifth consecutive season with a winning overall record (8-5), but it also earned it a winning dual-meet record for the fifth straight year (5-4) as well. It also marked its third consecutive dual-meet victory, giving the team some confidence as it focuses on the NESCAC Women’s Championships, to be held at the Wesleyan Natatorium on February 17-19th.

For the male Cards, the meet marked their sixth consecutive loss in a row as they finished the regular season with a 3-10 overall and 1-8 in dual meets. However, several core contributers swam impressive races. Co-captains Momo Saleh ’12 and Nick Huston ’13 each had strong afternoons, with Saleh earning the only first-place finish for the men by taking the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.33) in addition to a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:03.17). Huston finished in third in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke (56:86, 2:05.71). Thomas Cho ’13 managed a third-place finish of his own in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.94), and Brendan Fortin ’13 came in second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.74). Hopefully, the team will look to these individual successes as inspiration as they prepare for the NESCAC Men’s Championships at Williams on February 24-26th.
