Artist-in-Residence Patricia Beaman is the prima ballerina of Wesleyan. She teaches both Ballet I and Ballet II nearly every semester, and is not the terrifying taskmaster that comes to mind when one thinks of “ballet teacher,” a la “Company.” She works with students of all levels, from complete beginners to people who have been dancing ballet since kindergarten. Aside from ballet and her class on Dance History, you may recognize Beaman’s name from “The Narcoleptic Countess,” the faculty dance she choreographed last semester. She compiled a playlist of the songs that inspire her:
– Los Gitanos Cantan a Federico Garcia Lorca–Bodas de Sangre
– Axis Bold as Love–Jimi Hendrix
– Solo Cello Suite #6–J.S. Bach
-Vespro della Beata Vergine #1-10–Claudio Monteverdi
– Last Goodbye–Jeff Buckley
