In light of the recent power outage and the lack of heat in Full House, activities in the house have slowed and your beloved foodies have retreated to warmer places that sadly do not include the wonderful Full House kitchen. Fear not readers, for we bring you an alternative to recipes and home cooking.

As a true foodie, I am always looking for events centered around cooking and eating.  A few days ago, I found out about Brighter Dawns Benefit Dinner, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Mattabesett Canoe Club. For those of you looking for a nice meal on the water, stop by on Saturday and enjoy good food and a warm ambiance with live music from Wesleyan’s Almonds and Elephants. The band is set to begin at 5 p.m..

Mattabesett Canoe Club describes itself as an American Bistro that offers brunch, lunch, and dinner. The dinner menu is seafood-heavy with entrees ranging from seafood pot pie to whole-belly clams. The menu is a bit pricey, but for those of us who are more financially conscious there are definitely lighter options in the soups and salads as well as appetizers, especially if you just want to graze.  To conserve weekend party funds, you could try to convince your parents to treat you to a good meal. It is parents weekend, afterall. If they ask why, simply remind them that they are supporting a good cause while enjoying delicious food and live music. Moreover, if you print out a flyer or the Facebook event page,  10 percent of your bill will go to Brighter Dawns.

Mattabesett Canoe Club is located at 80 Harbor Drive, Middletown, Connecticut.
