Coming off its first NESCAC victory in a contentious match against Hamilton, Wesleyan volleyball hit the road on Wednesday, Oct. 5 to square off against Coast Guard Academy in a non-conference tilt. The match was the third in a stretch of four consecutive road contests for Wes but the only one against a non-NESCAC opponent.

The host Bears rolled in the first set, taking the stanza by a count of 25-13. In the second set, Wesleyan managed just a few more points, as Coast Guard again took the set convincingly, this time by a 25-17 score. The third set was back and forth, as the Cardinals looked to avoid a sweep and get right back in the match. Neither squad could pull away in the set, but with the score knotted at 25 apiece, Coast Guard snared two straight points, the second of which sealed the set and the match.

Monica Leslie ’14 led Wes with six kills, while juniors Laura Yim and Jeanne McPhee shared the team led with nine digs each and Claire Larson ’15 notched 21 assists. The loss drops Wesleyan to 4-11 overall (1-3 NESCAC). The Cardinals’ next match is on Friday, Oct. 7, when they will take on Trinity in a road NESCAC match.
