To our beloved readers,

In less than one week, Wesleyan’s annual Cookie Cup, brought to you by Full House and Science Hall, will return to rock your world—and most likely increase your pant size. Originally conceived by twins Sara and Yara Kass-Gergi ’12 as a competition between their fellow program house friends, the competition now boasts over 18 program houses/halls and myriad delicious baked goods. This week, Rachel and I, as proud Full Housians, will share the inside scoop on this year’s gluttony fest. As new members of the house, we sat down with our house manager, Chi, and asked her to give us the down-and-dirty details of this delicious event.

Chi described the Cookie Cup as “an attempt to make Wesleyan obese.”

Although this may be the “unintended” side effect, the event is actually a fundraiser for Brighter Dawns, an organization that aims to improve health and sanitation in Bangladesh.

Tickets cost three dollars, and each house provides 100 cookies. Students who participate vote on which cookie is the best out of the three categories: best taste, most creative, and best overall.

Because Science Hall snagged the victory last year, the ferocity of the competition has increased exponentially this time around. Our biweekly tea times have become a testing ground for new recipes and ideas, with each house member eager to contribute his or her premium cookie recipe. Just short of putting addictive substances into the batter, Full House plans to pull out all the stops to reclaim the title as Cookie Cup Champions, proving once and for all that baking is more than a simple science.

We ask you, our loyal readers, to come out and support a worthy cause, indulge yourself in culinary excellence (or simply stress eat), and vote for the best cookie.

Peace, love, and cookies!
Rachel and Ellie
