The Wesleyan women’s soccer team’s 3-2-4 NESCAC record in 2010 was their first ever winning record in conference. With eight starters and seven other letter-winners returning, the team hopes that the record will be  the first of many.

Senior quad-captains Hannah Stuckey and Emma Nitzberg are the most experienced starters on defense and the front line, respectively. Laura Kurash ’13, also a quad-captain this year, won NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2009 and followed-up with an all-NESCAC appearance last year, scoring nine goals and dishing out three assists.

The final quad-captain, Mikaela Curtin ’13, will be expected to contribute in a starting midfield role for the first time. She saw action in every game last year off the bench and should be able to help returning starter Hannah Knudsen ’14. Jen Brewer ’13 started all 15 games in 2009, but came off the bench last year and is looking to reclaim her starting spot on defense.

In goal, sophomore Grace Bomann won the starting spot in the second half of last season, notching an .846 save percentage and a 0.8 goals-against average, going 3-2-1.

The Cardinals will open the season against Bowdoin at home this Saturday, Sept. 10. Last year, Wes recovered from an early 2-0 deficit at Bowdoin to win 3-2, and they will be looking for a similar result as they start their 10-game conference schedule.
