PSafe Looks to End Tour de Franzia

According to Director of Public Safety Dave Meyer, Public Safety (PSafe) is taking a harder stance this year in preventing Tour de Franzia, the annual wine-drinking scavenger hunt. This comes after last year’s Tour sent a record nine students to the emergency room.

“If we find out it’s coming, we’re going to take some advance corrective action and be prepared because we can’t allow what happened last year to happen again,” said Meyer.

Last year, the students who created the Facebook event for the Tour, which garnered 925 confirmed guests, were fined a total of $2,000 by the University, a decision that sparked a student debate on the fine’s fairness. According to Meyer, PSafe will be keeping an eye out for anyone trying to organize the event for this year.

“I think we would take some precautionary measures and deal with any organizers ahead of time,” he said.
