By now everyone must know what happened in Japan last Friday. I’m beginning to catch up on the news myself, having returned from a spring break trip with my friends for a week. What has happened is truly terrible. Having been born and raised in Kobe, (although I wasn’t in Kobe during the 1995 quake) I lived the difficult post-disaster life myself. The people of Northeastern Japan must also live through this challenge for the years to come.

I just wanted to share this link http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/11/how-to-help-japan-earthquake-relief_n_834484.html which lists several donation and aid agencies involved in providing assistance to Japan. This is actionable. I hope that the Wesleyan community can make good use of it.

Thank you for the information; I hope the community will be generous. My family has long-standing ties to Japan; we have donated through several agencies and we are involved in our local community with several fundraisers as well.

We have a Japanese exchange student with us this year from Oarai, and two members of my family plan to be in Japn this summer. Our thoughts continue to be with the people of Japan as well as with everyone in the Wesleyan community with ties to Japan.
