On Friday, the Wesleyan wrestling team won its 16th match of the season as it wreaked havoc on American International College (AIC).  AIC had no chance, as Wes opened a quick 12-0 lead after pins from Chris Alvanos ’11 and Maika Nagata ’13.  After two forfeits and a technical fall win by Howard Tobochnik ’13, Kyle Roosa ’13, and Jefferson Ajayi ’13 added victories of their own.  Wesleyan lost only one decision on its way to a 48-3 triumph.  Alvanos’s decision improved his record to 19-1 in dual meets on the season, giving him the team lead in wins, followed by Roosa at 16-4.

The wrestling Cards are just one victory away from the highest seasonal total in school history; the 2001-02 team went 17-2.  Their first chance to tie the 2001-02 squad will be this Sunday at the sub-varsity New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships at Springfield.  The varsity will get back on the mat again at Trinity next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26 and 27 for the NEWA Championships.  At that meet, individuals will be able to qualify for NCAA Division III Championships, and final team rankings will also be based on those individual performances.
