Four laptops were stolen from room 405 in Exley Science Center last Tuesday when the Dynamic Earth class left the room for 15 minutes to conduct a scientific experiment. According to Grace Smith ’14, whose laptop was taken, the classroom door was left unlocked.
Two of the computers belonged to students and two to Teacher’s Assistants (TAs). Smith suspects that the computers were stolen within the first several minutes that the class was absent, because one of the TAs was communicating with a friend via Google Chat at the time the class left the classroom, and her friend’s computer recorded the time that she signed off, presumably when the laptop was shut.
Smith said that the University has replaced all four stolen laptops. Director of Public Safety (PSafe) Dave Meyer said that an investigation is underway in conjunction with the Middletown Police Department (MPD).
