The Wesleyan women’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season this past weekend with a final home match against Williams College. The Cards have been unable to take down the powerhouse the past 36 times the two teams have met. Unfortunately, Wesleyan failed to curtail that losing streak as they fell to the Ephs 9-0 on Saturday. Despite the end of season loss, the Lady Cards had an impressive fall season with a solid final 7-2 mark.

Though the Cards were not satisfied with Saturday’s results, the squad was able to reflect back on the match as a learning experience.

“Although we lost yesterday, we’ve realized what it’s going to take for us to go to the next level,” said Grace Smith ’14. “We can hit with Williams, we just need to become more consistent. Everyone played competitive matches, and we’re close to reaching a level of play that will allow us to do very well against teams such as Williams.”

After a strong performance throughout the fall, the squad seems confident in their abilities and ready to move on to the spring season.

“Playing against the National Champions was a good experience and gave everyone an idea of what our NESCAC matches will be like in the spring,” said Genevieve Aniello ’13. “It was disappointing that we couldn’t pull off any wins, but hopefully once our entire team is back we’ll have the right doubles combinations.”

“This winter we’ll be hitting tons of balls and playing matches, so hopefully that will prepare us for the spring season,” Smith said. “I love the game and the girls on the team. I couldn’t have asked for a better fall season.

With plenty of winter training ahead and the addition of two veteran players returning from abroad, the spring season looks promising for the Cards.
