On Saturday, the Wesleyan women’s soccer team traveled to Somerville, Mass. to take on their NESCAC foe, the Tufts Jumbos. After scoring just 45 seconds into the match, the Cardinals failed to put up another point in the remaining 109 minutes, and the two teams battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw. In the Cardinals’ three NESCAC matches this season, they have drawn all their opponents, brining their overall record to 1-1-3. The Cardinals, Amherst, Williams, and Trinity are the only remaining undefeated teams in the NESCAC.

A mere 45 seconds into the game, Laura Kurash ’13 got the ball in the Tufts box and was able to deposit it in the back of the net for her team-high fourth goal of the season. Despite this demoralizing start to the match for the Jumbos, they were able to rally and outshot the Cardinals 10-3 in the first half. However, Clare Colton ’12 was solid in-between the pipes for the Cardinals, and was able to stymie the Jumbos’ offense, leading to a 1-0 halftime score.

In the second the Jumbos were quick to even the match, scoring seven minutes into the half. Tufts player Alix Michael got a loose ball in front of the Cardinals’ goal and rocketed it into the back of the net to put the Jumbos on the board. This proved to be the last tally of the match as the Jumbos and Cardinals battled for the remainder of the second and both overtimes without producing a goal. This was the first time the two teams have tied since 1995.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday when they face off against in-state opponent Western Connecticut State on Jackson Field at 4 p.m.
