Stephen Morgan, the man accused of fatally shooting Johanna Justin-Jinich ’10 in May 2009, is currently undergoing evaluations by a mental health expert employed by state prosecutors, according to the Hartford Courant. Prosecutors do not expect these evaluations to be completed by Morgan’s next court date on Oct. 5.

During his court appearance on April 30, Morgan’s lawyers confirmed the completion of their own mental health evaluations, which they claimed would be sufficient to mount an insanity defense. It was during this appearance that state prosecutors asked to conduct their own mental health evaluations.

Morgan, who turned himself in to authorities a day after the shooting at Red & Black Café, has pled not guilty.
