The men’s and women’s crew teams traveled back to Worcester, Mass., on Saturday for a five-school race. Each team raced Colby, Middlebury, and W.P.I.; the Wesleyan men, ranked fourth in New England, also raced the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, while the Cardinal women, ranked seventh in New England, raced sixth-ranked Smith College. The races were held on the 2,000-meter Lake Quinsigamond course.

The men’s varsity eight boat of Sam Hoefle ’13, Parker Cook ’10, Elliott Skopin ’11, Terrence Word ’11, Bryce Hollingsworth ’13, Spencer Hattendorf ’12, Gilder Keeler ’11, Trevor Michelson ’13, and coxswain Rosemary Ostfeld ’10 clocked in 6:33.1, behind third-ranked W.P.I. (6:24.2) but ahead of UMass (6:34.8), Middlebury (6:44.6), and Colby (6:45.1). The Cardinals’ second varsity eight came in third with a time of 6:39.0, behind W.P.I. (6:29.1) and Colby (6:38.6) but ahead of UMass (6:46.7) and Middlebury (6:49.0). The third varsity eight boat covered the course in 7:52.3, 14.6 seconds ahead of W.P.I.

The women’s varsity eight boat of Becca Schofield ’11, Emilie Kimball ’11, Catie Steidl ’11, Greer Dent ’12, Julia Mulhern ’12, Haley Sacks ’13, Christina Ermilio ’13, Claire Tradewell ’11, and coxswain Sami Pop ’11 covered the course in 7:27.4, just 0.7 seconds behind Smith but over 20 seconds ahead of W.P.I. (7:47.9), Colby (7:48.0), and the Midd Kids (7:50.0). The Cardinals’ second varsity eight boat clocked in 8:16.0, 1.9 seconds behind Smith but again well ahead of Colby (8:24.4) and Middlebury (8:25.5). The Cardinals’ novice eight boat was third of five entrants with a time of 8:32.8, ahead of the Smith “B” boating (9:14.9) and Middlebury (9:31.1) but behind the Smith “A” boat (8:22.0) and Connecticut College (8:22.8).

Both teams will hit the water again in Malden, Mass., this Saturday.
