I know, I know. I’m wasting my time here. It’s true, so I’m just going to be up front about it. I don’t expect you to go to the Film Series this week. You’re a busy dude, and this weekend’s fabulous new releases are simply going to take up all of the little free time you have.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
2009, USA. Dir: Spike Jonze. With Mark Ruffalo, James Gandolfini, Forest Whitaker. 104 minutes.
TONIGHT, 4/2 8 p.m. $5
After all, why bother to walk all the way over to the CFS today (4/2) at 8 for Spike Jonze’s lyrical take on a perennial symbol of childhood like “Where the Wild Things Are,” when you could class it up and go down to Destinta for a savory 3D take on a perennial symbol of cheesiness like “Clash of the Titans?” Why pay $5 to watch a movie with hacks like Mark Ruffalo, James Gandolfini, and Forest Whitaker when you could just as easily pay almost three times as much to watch a film with thespians like Qui-Gonn Jinn and that dude from “Avatar?” And for God’s sake, why would you ever want to spend a hundred minutes grooving to original music from Karen O And The Kids when you could spend almost two hours having your eardrums hollowed out by the deafening roar of the Kraken?

BIGGER THAN LIFE
1956, USA. Dir: Nicholas Ray. With James Mason, Barbara Rush. 95 minutes.
Saturday, 4/3 8 p.m. FREE
I know what you’re looking for, man. You don’t want to waste your Saturday night on a gorgeous, recently remastered 35mm Cinemascope print of a rarely screened, subversive melodrama from the director of “Rebel Without a Cause.” “Bigger Than Life,” shmigger than life! You’ve got to make sure you’re at Tyler Perry’s long-awaited return to the cinema in the eagerly-anticipated “Why Did I Get Married Too.” It’s been over four months since his last film and dammit, you’re gonna be there, not over in the Goldsmith! Plus, everyone knows free stuff sucks.

DRUNKEN ANGEL
1948, Japan. Dir: Akira Kurosawa. With Takashi Shimura, Toshiro Mifune. 98 minutes.
Wednesday, 4/7 8 p.m. $5
And I won’t risk insulting you by suggesting you get your fix for East Asian cinema by checking out Kurosawa’s sake-infused ’40’s crime drama, “Drunken Angel” next Wednesday (4/7) at 8 for the exorbitant fee of $5, because I already know that you’re planning to see the new Jet Li film, “The Warlords.” Who cares if it’s Kurosawa’s hundredth birthday this year? It’s Jet Li’s 36th film. Thirty-six, dude! It’s your lucky number!

FROZEN RIVER
2008, USA. Dir: Courtney Hunt. With Melissa Leo, Misty Upham. 93 minutes.
Thursday, 4/8 8 p.m. FREE
Total bummer about “Frozen River” next Thursday (4/8) at 8, though. I know how much you’ve wanted to see it ever since the writer/director Courtney Hunt was nominated for Best Screenplay at the Oscars and won the Grand Jury prize at Sundance in 2008. But this whole Independent Filmmaker Speaker Series thing has just messed everything up. I mean, why would you want to talk to her or ask her questions or get her to sign your chest? That’d be so awkward! Don’t let it get you down though. We’ve only got three more speakers coming after her. You’ll have your Thursdays back soon, I promise. In the meanwhile, I’m sure “How To Train Your Dragon” is even funnier the second time.

I’m sorry this is such a lame week on the Film Series, guys. Truly. But hey, the good news is that we’re taking suggestions for next year’s calendars right now. Look for suggestion boxes around campus or send an email with all your brilliant
