Church Street Revue, Wesleyan’s foremost bluegrass band, is playing a show at Music House this Saturday at 9:30 p.m.. The members of CSR (Eli Hetko ’11, Nick Jackson ’11, Sam Werb ’11, and Michael Vitale ’11) sat down for an interview in which they discussed everything from their number one fan (Mike Chou) to their interest in wyverns.

Argus: Would you rather be able to read peoples’ minds or be able to become invisible?
CSR: Invisible because it would be terrible to read peoples’ minds. But, if you don’t have to read what you don’t want to, reading minds would be pretty sweet.

A: If you could communicate with animals, what type of animal would you want to be able to talk to?
CSR: Can they be fiction animals, like a wyvern? It’s a mythical beast.

A: Is it difficult to be a bluegrass band on the East Coast?
CSR: On the northern East Coast, maybe. Boston is a hotbed for bluegrass, though, and we still have time to drink beer, so it’s not that bad.

A: “Gossip Girl” or “True Blood”?
CSR: I don’t know either of those. “True Blood” is real and “Gossip Girl” isn’t.

A: Mustache or beard?
CSR: Bluegrass ‘stache. Tony Rice’s, for example.

A: If CSR could perform with one famous dead musician/singer, who would it be?
CSR: Lead Belly or Ray Charles. George Clinton is still alive isn’t he? I would kill him so I could use him for this question.

A: What’s your biggest distraction during rehearsal?
CSR: Beer and rehearsal.

A: Favorite day of the week and why?
CSR: Monday because I have a whole week of school work to look forward to, or Wednesday because I get to say “Hump.”

A: Memorial Day or Labor Day?
CSR: Labor Day is Eli’s birthday, and “labor” reminds me of pregnant women. So definitely Memorial Day.

A: If CSR could be on the soundtrack to any TV show, which one would it be?
CSR: “Sanford and Son.”

A: First three words that come to mind when you think of CSR?
CSR: Rapidly approaching mediocrity. Big fucking weirdos. Almost a band. Have my child. Wyvern, dragon, excalibur.
