People walking near the center of campus around 11PM on Monday night were met not by the usual crickets-and-sirens ambiance that usually graces Wesleyan evenings, but instead by the sound of drums echoing from Olin to Usdan.

The source of the sound turned out to be a small group of jazz musicians having a late-night jam behind the bleachers on Andrus Field. The lineup shifted as players came and went from this seemingly impromptu session, but for the bulk of the time I was there, the performance consisted of Owen Callahan ’12 on sax, Dewey Horowitz ’12 on drums, and Michael Zazzaro ’13 on guitar. The improvised tunes were tight and energetic, and soon a small but engaged crowd began to form around the musicians. Let’s hope we’re treated to some more spontaneous music from these talented players soon.
