A senior captain on the Cards’ 14-6 squad (4-1 in NESCAC), Lucy Sprung is second in the NESCAC in points per game, averaging 15.7 a contest. Only teammate Ali Fourney ’09 bests her in points per game, with an average of 16.8 points per game this season. Sprung, who also ranks third in the conference in rebounding with 9.2 rebounds a game, was named the NESCAC player of the week on Jan. 28. She became the second Cardinal to win the award this season, with Fourney garnering the honors on Dec. 10 of last year.

After averaging just 6.8 points per game in her junior campaign, Sprung has erupted in her final season in a Cardinal’s uniform. In Wesleyan’s most recent win, a triumph over Bates College last Friday, Sprung scored 19 of the 27 points in the second half to seal the victory for the Cards. Sprung has displayed an incredibly well-rounded arsenal this season, contributing in many different facets of the game. Additionally, Sprung shoots just under 50 percent from the field and leads the team with 21 blocks on the season. She is also the team leader in offensive rebounding, with 83 of her 184 season rebounds coming on the offensive end. These rebounds are crucial to a team’s success because they create extra opportunities to convert on offense. With Sprung playing so well in her final year, and with the plethora of talent that the team boasts, a run to the NCAA tournament is not out of reach for the Cards.

Sprung and the Cards will look to continue their success this weekend when they travel to Trinity College on Friday night, before heading to Massachusetts to face nationally-ranked Amherst College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest.
