The wrestling team brought back a win from Worcester, Mass. last week, defeating the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) team 28-6 this past Thursday. The victory moves Wesleyan to a 6-8 record after starting the season 1-4.
After 197-pound John Gottfried ’09 blanked his opponent, 10-0, heavyweight Dan Conroy ’11 upped the ante with a second period pin, putting the Cards ahead 13-3.
Dan Bloom ’10 continued the beat down, turning in an 8-4 decision.

“We came out with a high level of energy and everyone contributed to the win,” Bloom said about Thursday’s victory.

David Bachy ’10, 7-0 in his last 7 bouts, conquered his challenger 4-2, slamming the door on WPI and securing the 28-6 drumming.

Thursday’s match marked the 39th meeting between the wrestling squads from Wesleyan and WPI since the two first collided in the 1973-74 season. The win marked Wesleyan’s 11th historic win over WPI since their first meeting 35 years ago.

The last two dual matches coming up on Sunday could potentially bring the Cardinals back to .500, before entering the NECCWA Championship at the end of the season.
