Some Wesleyan students see a problem and complain about it. Others make a difference. Last week, hundreds of students boycotted Bon Appetit’s reign of terror by not buying lunch at the Usdan Student Center. However, only one student truly exemplified what it means to “make a difference.”

Coleman Larouche ’11, putting on his own boycott against the boycott, bought over $500 worth of Combo Meals at the Usdan Marketplace last Wednesday. “I was frustrated – no, angry – at the people who didn’t realize how awesome Usdan is,” said Coleman. “I’m in total support of Bon Appetit’s dedication to great food, great service, and great union bashing. I couldn’t imagine the havoc caused at Usdan if a large number of students didn’t buy lunch, so I took matters into my own hands.” Not realizing all student meals and points are paid for in advance, Coleman attempted to make up for the loss of profits on his own.

Coleman hopes his support will sway fellow students to love Bon Appetit as much as he does.“Contrary to what the boycotters said, you really get a lot of bang for your buck at the Marketplace.” Coleman’s $512 Wednesday lunch consisted of four turkey sandwiches, two plates of fries, seven pounds of kosher chicken, and a Dr. Pepper. “I wasn’t even that hungry. But I needed to send a message.”

Delmar Crim is in complete support of Coleman’s grassroots campaign. “Coleman’s efforts are truly valiant and perhaps even inspirational. I’m sure his generous $500 contribution will go toward improving some of the employee and logistical issues we’ve had,” said Crim, wearing his new Italian suede suit and riding on his recently purchased pony named Star Catcher. In appreciation for Coleman’s dedication, Bon Appetit awarded the freshman a free combo meal for him and two of his friends.
