After a stellar performance in Florida, highlighted with Wesleyan’s all-time low round of 68 by Dave Velardo ’08, the Golf team returned to competition on April 6 at Rhode Island College. The Cardinals finished in second place with a score of 340, eight behind the winner and host R.I.C., which finished with a score of 332. Velardo and Eli Wilson ’09 tied for the lowest score on the Wesleyan team with rounds of 82. Out of the 20 golfers of the day, Velardo and Wilson tied for fifth place.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals continued their spring schedule with a trip to Nichols. During the fall, Wesleyan visited Nichols and lost by 23 strokes. This time, the Cardinals defeated the home team in a nail-biter, 322-321. Velardo led the Cardinals with a 75, which equals his spring average after three rounds. Behind Velardo were Wilson and John Eshelman ’08, who both shot 81. The third squad in the match, Emerson, had two of its four members disqualified for no team score, and Wesleyan escaped with an important victory.

Next up, the Cardinals will face Nichols College and St. Michaels College at the Wesleyan Invitational on Wednesday, April 18.
