It has been a solid month of racing for the crew team.

Men’s crew had a great showing at the annual Head of the Connecticut Regatta in Middletown on Sunday, Oct. 9. Six eights were scheduled to represent Wesleyan at the event, but due to the high water levels from rainstorms the week before, only three novice crews were able to row. The novice crews made the most of the opportunity, however, as the “A” boat stroked to second place (22:26.93 over 3.5 miles) out of thirteen entries. Included in the squads that Wesleyan beat were the “A” boats of Brown and Coast Guard. Wesleyan’s “B” and “C” boats finished the races eighth (27:39.41) and ninth (31:27.46) place respectively.

On the women’s side, just a pair of the Cardinal boats was able to race. The varsity eight finished in sixth place with a time of 27:54.18. A novice boat of four took seventh in its race.

In the final varsity event of the season, the Head of the Charles in Boston on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22 and 23, the men’s varsity placed 34th of 41 in the collegiate-eight, an extremely competitive college division. The second varsity squad finished 12th out of 51 boats in the club-eight division.

Both the men’s and women’s varsity seasons are finished until the spring, but the novices still have one event left in Worcester tomorrow.
