Matt Moss ’05 broke the team record in the 1,000-meter race, finishing in 2:31.12 at Saturday’s indoor track St. Valentine Invitational at Boston University. Moss’s time was good for 26th at a meet that included some of the top competitors in the country. Owen Kiely ’06 ran 14:54.63 in the men’s 5,000-meter race (26th place) and Ellen Davis ’07 ran 17:34.69 in the women’s 5,000 meter race, missing the Wesleyan record by just over one second and finishing in ninth place. Kiely and Davis both qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Several members of the Cardinals stayed in Middletown to compete in Saturday’s Wesleyan Invitational track meet. Wesleyan dominated the 5,000-meter race on both the men’s and women’s sides, as Sarah Bernier ’08, Liz Cukor ’05, and Carrie Vaudreuil ’05 finished 1-2-3 for the women and Nick Holowka ’07, Dan Sullivan ’06, Sean Watson ’08, and Matt Franco ’07 finished 2-3-4-5 for the men.

The Cardinals also had four first place finishers as Joel Pratt ’07 high jumped 6′ 2“, Max Piana ’05 triple jumped 40′ 11 1/4”, Stephanie O’Brien ’08 ran 400 meters in 1:02, and Cara Chebuske ’06 ran 1,000 meters in 3:18.

Next up for the Cardinals are the New England Division III meets this weekend. The men will head to Tufts and the women to Smith.
