This past Tuesday I picked up the Argus for the first time in a little while. Reading Professor Potter and Desan’s (and I’m sure some others that escape me) Wespeaks, I was reminded of something I’d read in high school: “Sly as a Watteau.” Or was it a Fragonard? I can never remember. Regardless. I’ve heard that Jacques Derrida still teaches a bit, or gets paid just to hang out, at NYU. And I believe Stanley Fish is still kicking around the U of I at C. What I mean is, we need chalking theory. Its so hard to argue about this without any slim, University Press volumes or high lit arguments in the New York Review o’ Books. I think Derrida and Fish (and whoever else wants to) might string together a few sentences to get the ball rolling. Maybe they could even give “chalking” a new definition that would confuse the News Havens (Liz Bumiller &co.) down on Times Square.
