The Cardinals faced off against neighbor and NESCAC travel partner Trinity College this past weekend. The team hit the road on Saturday, Feb. 5, for the first of two contests against the Bantams, ranked 9th in Division III. The Cardinals endured a rough start, falling behind 3-0 in the first period in an eventual 4-0 loss.
Trinity was able to capitalize on two power plays in the first period, leading to two of their three goals in the first twenty minutes. Despite 11 saves from keeper Ashleigh Corvi ’13, the Bantams were able to sneak in another goal, going into the intermission with a comfortable 3-0 lead. In the second period, Wesleyan doubled their shot attempts from three in the first period, adding another six in the second. However, they could not penetrate the Bantam defense, failing to get on the scoreboard. Trinity notched another goal to go up 4-0, but failed to run up the score in the third. They faced a determined Cardinal defense and 16 saves from Corvi, who ended the contest with a total of 36 stops.
The win for the Bantams was their eighth consecutive victory over the Cardinals. The Cardinals look to break this streak on Feb. 15, when the puck drops again between the two teams at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. Before then, the Cardinals will host Colby and Bowdoin next weekend, and look to reschedule a game against Sacred Heart University postponed from this past Sunday.
