Jeffrey Legunn ’13

The Wesleyan men’s tennis team is coming off of a season that depended heavily on freshmen recruits, with frosh filling five of the team’s six singles slots.

Last year, Jeffrey Legunn ’13, proved himself more than capable of handling the top singles and doubles slots against formidable collegiate com- petition, despite his lack of experience in collegiate play. but, as the team tran- sitions from becoming heavily fresh- men to heavily sophomore, legunn and the Cardinals are not anticipat- ing a complete turn-around in their nesCaC win-loss record.

“I mean it’s good to have some experience,” he said. “To tell you the truth i’m still just trying to play my game. I’m not really that concerned about winning. i’m more concerned about trying to improve my game. The team’s the same way. We’re trying to be- come a better team overall, and hope- fully the wins come with it.”

Legunn compiled a singles record of 10-7 last season as well as a doubles record of 8-7 playing with michael piderit ’12. While the team as a whole stumbled to a disappointing 9-10 record (1-8 in nesCaC play), Legunn maintained an optimistic outlook.

“We knew we had potential coming in, but we also knew we were freshmen,” legunn said. “i think a lot of our matches were also closer

Than they seemed, so hopefully this year we can actually come out on top.”

The Westchester native does have some larger goals in mind, citing becoming an all- american as a goal of his. above all else, legunn is a Cardinal, and the red and black come before personal glory.

“We want to make the nesCaC tournament,” he said. “no other major goals really, just trying to get a better record from last year.”
