Next year’s major maintenance projects to total $4.4 million

According to a list of items approved for maintenance during fiscal year 2008-2009, Physical Plant will make $1.5 million in improvements to residence halls and program housing. Over $1 million has been allocated for repairs to senior woodframe houses.

“Out of about $4.4 million of available Major Maintenance funds, over half will be used in student life projects,” said Finance & Facilities Committee Chair Becky Weiss ’10.

Many students will be affected by the maintenance, which will begin in the spring.

Renovations on High Rise will continue on the fourth and fifth floors and will include new paint for corridors and ceilings and new carpeting in the hallways. Kitchens and bathrooms will be renovated in the same way as those on the already-renovated upper floors.

At Ecletic, code locks will be installed on the second floor hallway door to prevent nonresidents from entering during events held downstairs.

Windows at Earth House and Butterfield A will be upgraded to more energy efficient insulated glass, and both buildings will receive new exterior paint. 200 Church will receive card access.

The kitchen in 156 High will be upgraded to a full kitchen, including a stove, and a new kitchen will be installed in the Butterfield B lounge.

Additionally, a number of woodframe houses will receive exterior renovations including new paint, surface refinishing, porch repairs and window replacements.
