The Cardinal indoor track and field team kicked off the season this weekend with its first of five home meets. While resting their distance squads, the sprinters, jumpers, and throwers showed rocked the competition at the Bacon Field House. Standout hurdler Dan McLaughlin ’07 took second in the 55 hurdles, clocking an 8.32 second time, while Steph O’Brien ’08 took home the 800 meters title in 2:29.
“It’s still really early in the season, so I know I can still run faster,” McLaughlin said. “It was nice to have an appearance by a celebrity like Pat Moffet ’04 there to race against though.”
Moffet, an All-American hurdler, raced unattached, winning in 7.89 seconds.
Other notable performances were turned in by Dan Manuyag ’10, placing seventh in the 55 meter dash (6.76 seconds) and Lisa Sussman ’09 winning the 500 meters in 1:22. Kiran Sheffrin ’10 also showed her consistent training placing fifth in the hurdles (9.66 seconds) and seventh in the 200 meter dash (28.2 seconds).
Next up for the Cardinals is another home meet on Jan. 20. Look for the team to be at full strength with the return of the distance crew.
