Today is kind of a sad day for me. This column marks not only the end our time writing Cinefiles, but the end of our time as members of the prestigious Wesleyan Film Board.

You may not be aware of this, but for many of us, this week will live in infamy. On Monday, the New Yorker Films company “ceased operations,” bringing the recession to the homes of movie nerds and cinephiles across the nation.

It’s almost time! It’s almost Thanksgiving Break! I, for one, simply cannot wait. I’m almost approaching the little kid-style countdown on the wall…though I’ve noticed that nobody makes an Advent calendar for Thanksgiving. That hardly seems fair.

This week on the Film Series we will deliver on our promise to screen a movie that was in heavy demand.

WELCOME BACK FROM BREAK!

The middle of October always feels a bit unsettling, as if we are rising slowly on the tide of a new wave, and we’ve no idea yet that it isn’t simply a ripple in the water. True, the weather is getting colder, and winter approaches, but I always have the feeling that something larger is imminent, and I can’t shake that sense of precipitate mystery… Something is coming. I suppose that this year, that feeling is only heightened by the political climate: some of the prospects of this election are goddamned chilly.

f “4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days” made you want to crawl into a hole and never come out (like it did me), I feel that it is my duty to remind you that there is hope… and even a little hope from the Film Series.

Classes may finally be in full swing, but I hardly think that’s a reason to stop pretending we’re at Camp Wes. This week we’ve got quite a lot of cheery action, designed to keep your mind off the encroaching cold weather, regardless of whether you’ve found someone to make the nights less chilly. This week errs on the uplifting — though no less ironic — side, so if you’ve found yourself a cutie, these flicks are all perfect date movies (as if Wesleyan students DATE, har har har). If not, they’re still bound to send you out of the theater with a smile on your face.

So hopefully you have checked out the wonderful Wesleyan Film Series over the past few nights. “Apocalypse Now: Redux” was totally epic and “The Band’s Visit” was totally awesome and witty. I hope all of you little froshies are as excited and as passionate about the Film Series as we all have been in the past years.

Welcome back Wes! And welcome all ye newbies to the magic that is the Wesleyan Film Series. We hope that you’ve all rotted your teeth, your brains and your livers as much as we have this summer, and are looking forward to a fresh year of amazing films. At the end of these longs days of class, there really is no better way to kick back than the grand ol’ Wesleyan Film Series!

Hurrah for beautiful weather! Can anyone say global warming? I don’t know about the rest of you, but I really feel like the warm weather has infected my brain. Or maybe that’s just lack of sleep. April crazies bring May daisies? All I want to do is take my sleepy, over-worked, sun-addled brain and sit in front of a big screen and have somebody project movies for me.

This week on the Film Series…the new Film Board swings into action! I know we all love this year’s seniors, despite their tweaked behavior in the last couple weeks (you’re almost done! I swear!). But sadly, it’s the middle of April, and you know what that means: sunshine; Foss Hill; hook-ups that maybe shouldn’t happen; awesome movies on the Film Series, and a whole mess of seniors getting totally trashed in preparation for their departure from their alma mater.
