The Wesleyan men’s hockey team saw two disappointing losses this weekend to out-of-league opponents Babson and UMass-Boston. With both colleges in the Greater Boston area, the Cardinals traveled to Babson on Friday, Dec. 3, to take on the Beavers.
Wesleyan field hockey faced off against three teams last week, taking on NESCAC foes Bates and Middlebury on Saturday and Sunday, and out-of-conference opponent Salve Regina on Tuesday.
Coming off two tough defeats over the weekend, the Cardinals looked to rebound at home against Coast Guard on Wednesday. But despite the Cardinals’ efforts, Coast Guard rolled to a 3-0 victory, bringing the Wesleyan’s overall record to 4-7 on the year.
On Sunday, the men and women’s crew teams traveled to Lowell, Mass. to participate in the Textile River Regatta. The two teams raced a total of eight boats, and came back to Wesleyan feeling accomplished and excited about their prospects for the season.
On Saturday, the Wesleyan women’s soccer team traveled to Somerville, Mass. to take on their NESCAC foe, the Tufts Jumbos. After scoring just 45 seconds into the match, the Cardinals failed to put up another point in the remaining 109 minutes, and the two teams battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw.
On Tuesday, the women’s soccer (1-1-2) team obtained its first win of the season in dramatic fashion, beating the Mt. Holyoke Lyons 6-0. The two teams have met every year since 1979, and this was the team’s largest margin of victory in the 32-game series.
After starting off their season with a strong 2-2 tie against the pre-season consensus number 1 ranked Williams Ephs, the Cardinals stumbled last Monday against Salve Regina, losing 1-3 at home.
After dropping their first two matches of the season, the Cardinal’s bounced back last week, winning two of their three games. One of those wins came at Conn. College, as the team traveled to New London to take part in the annual NESCAC tournament hosted by the Camels.
