The proposal to establish a voting location on campus for the November election has failed despite the collective efforts of the Wesleyan Student Assembly (WSA), the University administration, and WesVotes, a newly formed collaborative project that strives to make voting more accessible on campus.
Earlier this month, the University was fined for violation of intellectual property law when the distribution company of “Black Snake Moan” found an advertisement on Wesleying for a free screening of the movie in Film Hall.
When the senior class officers announced a “harder, faster, no drink tickets, way f-ing cheaper” senior cocktails in last week's issue of The Argus, they were not making empty promises. Senior class officers say that senior cocktails will not only be held this year, but will be better—and more affordable—than ever.
In light of the two responses to my previous Wespeak, I feel that there are a few clarifications and additional points I should make. First and foremost, I would like to sincerely apologize to anyone at the Wesleyan Film Series (WFS) whom I offended. It certainly was not my intent to insult anyone.
Film Hall faces an uncertain future due to intellectual property laws after an illegal public screening of “Black Snake Moan.” Problems began after Rose Agger ’10, Film Hall’s house manager, posted an advertisement for the screening on the popular student-run Wesleying blog on Sept. 11, 2008.
I can’t not talk about this anymore. I bit my tongue when Hillary was running for president because I didn’t want to piss off my friends, even though I watched kids my age hate on Hillary openly because she was “a bitch.” Or ugly, or a lesbian, or generally unpleasant, blah blah blah. Except to my family, who humored me and patted my head, I didn’t sputter about the RESOUNDING SILENCE ABOUT SEXISM IN THE ELECTIONS.
James Hounsell’s ’11 provocative Wespeak entitled “‘Recession’ distortion” (September 23, 2008, Volume CXLIV, Number 7) raises a number of interesting issues, but he is inadvertently perpetuating a common myth regarding the definition of a recession in the United States
The Wesleyan Student Assembly (WSA) passed a resolution last night that will allow the Student Budget Committee (SBC) to give any student the opportunity to file funding requests, even if he or she is not part of an officially recognized student group. Before we brand the New York Mets as perennial choke-artists and cast them into the history books as overpaid underachievers, let’s first take a closer look at the 2008 season, and how the Metropolitans managed to, again, not make the postseason.
Last Wednesday, seven editors of six campus publications—ranging from a literary arts magazine with a name that even its editors forget how to pronounce, to an unnamed publication still in progress—were brought together by a common cause: to build a Wesleyan publications community.
"All grandeur, all power, all subordination rest on the executioner. He is the horror and bond of human association; remove this incomprehensible agent from the world, and at that very instant order gives way to chaos, thrones topple and society disappears." -Comte Joseph de Maistre
The senior and team captain had an epic day at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27. Leading the Cards, Blumstein placed fourth overall with a time of 27:00.66 for the 8k race. That’s fast; really fast. The Wesleyan men’s side had seven runners finish within the top 15 in a field of 103 runners. Blumstein chatted about the weekend’s feats.
The men’s soccer team fell to Trinity 3-1 on Saturday afternoon, its second straight loss to the Bantams after a four-game winning streak. The Cardinals have two chances to move back into the win column this week, with a Tuesday showdown against Wheaton followed by a Saturday contest at Colby.
The Wesleyan women’s soccer team made the most of its opportunities on Saturday, attempting three on-goal shots and put away two for a 2-0 victory over Trinity. Cora Lautze ’11 had a hand in both, scoring the first goal in the 33rd minute, and delivering the assist on Dasha Battelle’s ’11 60th-minute insurance goal.
