Better than Usdan: Your guide to Middletown eats

Though Middletown is hardly the dining capital of the Northeast, local restaurants are often crowded with students seeking respite from dining hall mystery meat. Who knew that central Connecticut would be home to a variety of world cuisines?

Experience M-town and beyond (there are dinosaurs)

A month-by-month sampler of Wes arts events, 2007-2008

Dear Class of 2012: Welcome to Wes. Surely you are all eagerly anticipating the top-flight education you are about to receive from this fine institution of higher learning. But we here at The Argus want to make sure you are also aware of the sheer awesomeness of the arts you are going to see, hear and hopefully participate in on campus. To that end, here are just some of the arts highlights of the 2007-2008 academic year

Best worst movies of the summer

One of the staples of a good summer, along with beach trips, ice cream trucks and hot pants, is terrible movies. There’s no better way to spend a blazing July afternoon than by plopping down in your local air-conditioned AMC and annoying the people around you with snarky comments about Keanu Reeves’ less-than-stellar acting abilities.

Field hockey goes Argentine; gets cultured, completes

While the majority of the University’s athletes spent the summer months separated from their teammates and coaches, the field hockey team stayed active and spent part of their summer together in another part of the world. Thirteen players from the 2007 squad joined Marley Aloe ’03 and Melissa Courtemanche ’03 on a week-long journey in Argentina led by head coach Patti Klecha-Porter and assistant coach Lindsay Wasserman.

A look back at some of the shining moments of the 2007-2008 Wesleyan sports year

Event Spotlight: Feet to the Fire Common Moment

Some of you may recall that a little over a year ago, Wesleyan was proud, outraged and indifferent to be named “Most Annoying Liberal Arts School in the U.S.” by New York-based gossip blog Gawker.

The Cine-Files

Welcome back Wes! And welcome all ye newbies to the magic that is the Wesleyan Film Series. We hope that you’ve all rotted your teeth, your brains and your livers as much as we have this summer, and are looking forward to a fresh year of amazing films. At the end of these longs days of class, there really is no better way to kick back than the grand ol’ Wesleyan Film Series!

Editors pick your fantasy dream team

For you fantasy football fanatics, these are your most important days. Most leagues hold drafts around this time, and if you don’t make the right picks you’ll probably end up as one of those annoying people who stop playing mid-season, give away your players, and basically ruin everyone’s fun. Don’t be that.

2007-2008: Know your news

For those students just joining us, and for those who simply need a refresher, here's a look back at some of the news highlights from last year:

Obama encourages public service in commencement address

In his commencement address, Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) directly challenged the class of 2008 to commit themselves to community involvement and global engagement. Obama filled in for Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA), whose recent diagnosis with a malignant brain tumor prevented him from speaking at the event.
