"Like an Expressionist painting": Ensemble cast adds dance and depth to "Vienna: Lusthaus"

The production of Charles Mee’s "Vienna: Lusthaus" that went up Nov. 17 to 19 in the ’92 Theater was like an Expressionist painting: beautiful, lush, vibrant, and haunting. Director Meredith Steinberg ’06 worked artistic magic, turning an eight-page monologue into an eleven-person dance-theater piece.

Gould turns Kafka's "Metamorphosis" into comedy

"My shadow's the only one that walks beside me/My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating," sang John Wesley '07, playing Gregor, a giant bug. Green Day has never sounded more poignant. Estranged from his family, with no one to turn to but the play's narrator, Wesley crawls under the covers and dies alone and miserable to the laughter of the audience of the '92 Theater.

Stress for some, nudity for others

In the popular imagination, Wesleyan students spend their days frolicking around campus in the nude. We know that only happens on the last day of classes. While many students spend reading week studying, the grace period before finals has, for others, become synonymous with debauchery and procrastination.

Keep moving forward on gender-neutral housing

Almost two years ago, the Administration revolutionized policy by allowing incoming freshmen to check off a box requesting placement in gender-neutral housing -- not an isolated hall, but a room with a roommate who checked off the same box, regardless of either student's gender. A year and a half ago, the decision was reversed.

Worst Week Ever: "Don’t Hate the Player, Hate the Date"

Dear Wesleyan Community, I am writing to you in seek of support. As you may already know, elections for the Student Budget Committee are currently happening and unfortunately, my name is not on the ballot.

Stop supporting Caterpillar

Way back in September when I arrived on campus I was quite disturbed by the presence of the Caterpillar bulldozers preparing to tear down the buildings along Wyllys Avenue. Before I came to Wes I spent close to a year in Israel/Palestine taking part in demonstrations and working for human rights groups such as Checkpoint Watch, Rabbis for Human Rights, and the International Solidarity Movement

A message from your frosh reps

Dear Class of '09, Many of you will remember that at some point earlier this year you elected your frosh representatives to the WSA. However, since that time, I would imagine that you haven't thought much more about it.

The second part to the NYU debate on TA union

Viewing the labor dispute at NYU through the lens of political economy and against the backdrop of recent history remains key to understanding it in a broader context. You said you wanted offensive

Dear Ms. LeBlanc and Ms. Schwartz, You girls make lovely points. I look forward each week to reading your Wespeaks; you get so adorably feisty. I hope you don’t find it off-putting when I say that I like to imagine both of you sitting down to pen your cute remarks.

I want steam now

I love going in the steam room. It makes my muscles feel good. Unfortunately the steam room in the men’s locker room didn’t work at the end of last year or the beginning of this one. I was very happy when I saw that it was fixed, a month or two ago -- until I tried to turn it on.

Congrats 2005.5!

As most of the school prepares for finals and their month long break, there are a select few of us who have have another thing on their mind: graduation. We are the forgotten class - there is no graduation or celebrations of any kind. We slip off into the real world generally unnoticed.

Bodhi Day!
